12. Take Risks

Think of risks as a challenge not as a threat

I found that nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks.

– Denzel Washington
Commencement Address at University of Pennsylvania, 2011

Be willing to take a chance, take a risk with something new… career, hobbies, dating, sports, whatever. It doesn’t mean you should be impulsive. It does mean that you should take calculated risks. Get yourself into the arena… be a participant and not a spectator. Don’t always wait for approval or perfect knowledge. Do something.

– D. Cote
Commencement Address at University of New Hampshire, 2011

You never know what is around the corner unless you peek… Take your risks now. As you grow older, you become more fearful and less flexible. And I mean that literally. I hurt my knee on the treadmill this week and it wasn’t even on.

– Amy Poehler
Harvard College Class Day Address, 2011

Sometimes you have to take calculated risks and roll the dice, or risk growing old and having to say, “I could have been….”.

– M. Uslan
Commencement Address at Indiana University, 2006
